元々この歌はアメリカ合衆国の伝統的なフォーク・ソングで、
“Rising Sun Blues”とも呼称される。"The House of the Rising Sun" は
19世紀に実在した娼館を指すという説があるが確証はない。
アニマルズバージョン(1964年リリース)では男性視点に変更されている。
